Adventures in AU Neo-Olympus Legend of the Four The Penalty Game

Strategy Guide
Level 01

This Is Normal Life

In Level 01, we meet Melissa, Ashley, and Becky, the heroines of Six Lefts. Each of them come from very different walks of life with very different intrests. Melissa's a night-loving actress, Ashley's an energetic and kind college student, and Becky's a dis-illusioned warrior-type. So we have three somewhat stereotypical anime types for the personalities of our first three characters. Melissa seems to be a canidate for a role in a gothic/horror mystery (think vampire animes and such). Ashley seems to be an escaped lead for a magical girl series (think Sailor Moon). And Becky could be a side character in a historical/fantasy anime (think stuff like Slayers and Kenshin).

These three very different girls turn out to know each other though as they meet up backstage after a play. All three are not only students together at Auburn University, but they share a common intrest, Japanese Anime. The Level ends with a round of introductions at the Auburn University Anime Club.

Page Notes

Covers

They key phrase for this Level is the same as the Level title, "This is normal life." Since we're about to make some major changes in the lives of these three, it only seems right to give a bit of a normal introduction first. The last line for each of their intro pages is "This is normal life."
Each character was colored in thier signature colors, Melissa - Purple, Ashley - Pink, and Becky - Blue. And each of thier shirts has a symbol that fits thier character, and/or hints at thier later transformations. Melissa - Dragon. Ashley - a heart. Becky - kanji 'sora' meaning 'Sky'.

The back cover is yet another picture of Melissa, Ashley, & Becky in thier colors, but this time all dressed in similar outfits. The tops are each styled slightly differntly, and the symbols are not original creations. Ashley's winged-cross is the crest for a girl from Someday's Dreamers (an anime), and Melissa's claw is from +Anima (a manga). There's a long running joke, mostly between the real life Becky and Ashley about organizing a real Auburn version of Quiddich (we blame MacHall) so these are, I guess, our Quiddich practice uniforms.

Anime Club

The last scene of Level one is a brief intro to some of the anime Club members. Once again these are all REAL people, but they are also characters. Due to delays, who is going to remain as major players has changed since this was drawn, but this was (at the time) what was known as Auburn Anime Club's "Core Group".

Fashion

We always have a lot of fun sitting down to design all of the oufits for Six Lefts. Most are fairly random, but some are references to other things (i.e. anime series and video games) and some are meant to bring out the personalities of the character. I (Lycorne) picked three shirts from Level 01 to point out. Ashley's t-shirt from her character intro says "HANYOU" and has two white ears above it. For you Inu Yasha fans, you know that 'Hanyou' means 'Half-Demon' in Japanese, and the dog-eared star of Inu Yasha is a Hanyou. In Becky's intro, you see the front of the black shirt in the very last panel, it's the symbol of the Heartless from the video game Kingdom Hearts, draw your own conclusions there.

At the theater scene where the girls start talking anime, everyone is wearing anime-related shirts. Becky's is an image from the chinese martial arts comedy, Ranma 1/2 (seen above). Ashley's features an original anime character that you might recognize when he shows up later in the comic, and the phrase "GOT BISHIE?". Melissa's shirt is another original design, Bugs Bunny under a guilotine, with the phrase "ANIME IS NOT CARTOONS" around it. We just had fun with it. They also made for the conversation pieces of the page.

In the last scene at the Anime Club everyone, once again, has custom shirts meant to hint at things that will happen to the character later, or just insight into the character. Matt - Monkey King. Dave - LNX (short for Linux). Jana - My Other Sword Is A LIGHTSABER. Chris - Nighttime Techie. Jenny - Dr. Pepper. Michelle - Trigun. Stephen - Resident Pyro. Beau - Senshi Otaku (literally 'Extreme Soldier Fan', but the word used for Soldier is commonly associated with magical girls like Sailor Moon).
